Europe Must Fight Antisemitism
Last week,
representatives from 55 countries met in Vienna to address the
rising tide of antisemitism in Europe, where attacks against Jews
have risen dramatically since 2001. LCHR Program Director Michael
McClintock wrote this Letter
from Vienna from the meeting. Last year, LCHR released
a report, Fire
and Broken Glass, that criticized world leaders and
European leaders in particular, for not responding adequately
to this growing problem.

Guatemala: Mack Case Goes to Supreme
Court
 |
Thirteen
years ago, anthropologist Myrna Mack was stabbed to death in front
of her office by a Guatemalan Army Sergeant who allegedly acted
as a part of death squad directed by senior members of the military.
Last week, Mack's case wound its way to Guatemala’s Supreme Court.
The Court could choose to send three senior military officers
to jail for the role they allegedly played in orchestrating the
murder. The Supreme Court has three weeks from the day of the
hearing to rule. A lower court convicted one of the officers last
year, only to have the conviction overturned on appeal in March.
