Proposal for Iraq Tribunal May Not be Viewed As Fair and Impartial
The United
States is prepared to establish “an Iraqi-led” tribunal
to prosecute past crimes of Ba’ath Party government officials,
Pentagon
officials said recently. The Lawyers Committee believes that
it would be a mistake to pursue this approach rather than working
with the United Nations to establish a tribunal that will be seen
as fair and impartial by the Iraqi people and the world.

Police Investigation Confirms Role

police force, failed to prevent the murder (or in the aftermath arrest
the killers) because of the murderers' ties to loyalist paramilitary
groups. The Lawyers Committee called the
report both "unprecedented" and "extremely
important." More»
