Sherry Thomas
Director of Development
Joined the Lawyers Committee in 2003

Sherry Thomas is the Director of Development for the Lawyers Committee. She is responsible for all fundraising activities of the organization, both annual support and campaign donations. She manages the development staff at the Lawyers Committee and is the staff liaison to the Board’s Development and Nomination’s Committees.

Before joining the Lawyer’s Committee, Sherry was the Director of Development at Lambda Legal for the past four years. Sherry moved to New York when she took the position at Lambda Legal. Prior to moving to New York, she worked as Western Regional Director for Environmental Defense and as the Executive Director of the Library Foundation of San Francisco. While a resident in San Francisco, Sherry served as Vice-Chair of the KQED Board (public television) and the Governance Chair of the board at the Center for the Arts. She received the James C. Hormel Community Service Award along with other civic recognition for her leadership of the San Francisco Public Library’s $36 million capital campaign.

Sherry was previously a writer, publisher and bookstore owner. She is the author of three non-fiction titles: Country Women (Doubleday), We Didn’t Have Much, But We Sure Had Plenty (Doubleday), and Out In All Directions (Warner Books).

Sherry attended Brown University.
